Warning signs

When it is time to stop

They do not all have to apply. If several of these sound familiar, it is a good moment to talk to someone.

  • You stake more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
  • You go back to play in order to win back what you lost.
  • You borrow money, sell things or use funds meant for other expenses to keep playing.
  • You hide how much you gamble from family or friends.
  • You think about gambling for much of the day, or it keeps you awake.
  • Gambling is affecting your work, your studies or your relationships.
  • You feel irritable or anxious when you try to cut down.

Tools

Controls available on licensed sites

Deposit limits

A daily, weekly or monthly cap set inside the account. Reductions usually take effect immediately, while increases are delayed.

Time and session limits

Reality checks and automatic session timeouts that stop long sessions from slipping by unnoticed.

Temporary break

Suspending the account for a set period — useful when you want to stop without closing everything permanently.

Self-exclusion

Blocking access for an extended period or permanently. It is requested from the operator and cannot be reversed early.

Activity history

Reviewing real deposits, stakes and results is the simplest way to see how much was actually played in a month.

Filters at home

If there are minors in the household, content filters and separate user accounts help block access to gambling sites.

Good practice

Five simple rules

  • Set an entertainment budget before you start and do not raise it mid-session.
  • Set a time limit and stick to it, even when you are winning.
  • Never gamble to solve money problems, or while drinking.
  • Never chase losses: the previous result does not change the odds of the next one.
  • Keep up other activities and relationships away from gambling.
